چکیده

A new perturbation theory is proposed for studying finite-size effects near critical point of the φ 4 model with a one-component order parameter. The new approach is based on the techniques of generating functional and functional derivative with respect to external source field and can be used for temperatures both above and below the critical point of the bulk system. It is shown that this approach is much simpler comparing with available perturbation theories. Particularly, this new method avoids renormalization in calculating many physical quantities such as correlation functions etc..

We study how the finite-sized n-component model A with periodic boundary conditions relaxes near its bulk critical point from an initial nonequilibrium state with short-range correlations. Particular attention is paid to the universal long-time traces that the initial condition leaves. An approach based on renormalization-group improved perturbation theory in 4−ǫ space dimensions and a nonpertu...

We apply the δ-expansion perturbation scheme to the λφ4 self-interacting scalar field theory in 3+1 D at finite temperature. In the δ-expansion the interaction term is written as λ(φ2)1+δ and δ is considered as the perturbation parameter. We compute, in this perturbation approach, the renormalized mass at finite temperature from which we get the critical temperature. The results are compared wi...

Finite - Size Effects in Critical Phenomena from Mean Field Approach with φ 4 Model

The finite-size effects in critical phenomena of a thin film system are studied from a mean field (MF) approach with φ model for second-order phase transition. The influence of boundary condition on the critical properties are emphasized. Scaling functions for relative free-energy and relative specific heat capacity are given. In an earlier work, Damle and the author (Phys. Rev. B in press; condmat/9705206) demonstrated the central role played by incoherent, inelastic processes in transport near two-dimensional quantum critical points. This paper extends these results to the case of a quantum transition in an anyon gas between a fractional quantized Hall state and an insulator, induced by varying the strength of an e...
